GradTurkey:About
From GradTurkey
bocbaschi domaco Ever wish that there were more people to talk about papers with? This website is an experimental discussion forum for summarizing and discussing papers, as well as other grad student related topics. Please poke around and join the conversation!
Each page is brief description of some academic paper. It should include a summary of the main points of the paper (drawn from the abstract and conclusion), as well as the BibTeX entry for referring to the paper. The discussion page is where "reading group" questions and comments belong. I really want to keep the discussion on the positive side, where we can learn from each other and explore interesting ideas that might come up; please refrain from any criticisms which aren't constructive. Please try to avoid religious debates, like asking why a particular paper might be based on vi instead of the clearly superior emacs.
Although the main point of this site is to discuss published papers, I would also like to see grad students submit unpublished papers that they would like "peer reviewed" by the readers of this site. I think that there is a lot of good work done for classes, which never really sees the light of day.
The last goal of this site is to explore the nature of academic writing and reviewing. What are we supposed to be learning in grad school? What is the point of papers and talks? Although there aren't any real answers to these questions, maybe we can outline the issues to think about.
